Jeffrey Shippy has dedicated the past 15 years of his career to conscientiously serving the best interests of middle-market businesses in both good and bad times.  His expertise surrounds valuing, raising capital for, and selling companies, as well as providing other liquidity for shareholders of closely-held businesses. His deal experience includes work with healthy, underperforming, and distressed business situations for companies across most major industries, including but not limited to manufacturing (industrial and light), consumer/retail products, food, technology, healthcare, sustainable development, distribution, import/export, and professional services.

Prior to Mosaic, Mr. Shippy worked as an investment banker at Houlihan Lokey Howard & Zukin.  There, he was responsible for executing mergers, acquisitions, leveraged buyouts, and debt/equity private placements.

Throughout his career, Mr. Shippy has materially advised more than 150 private businesses and select public companies on varied business concerns, and successfully closed M&A and capital markets deals as large as $300 million in transaction value.  As an investment banker, he has represented prominent middle-market businesses and private equity funds in the Western-U.S. region.  He also has direct private equity deal execution experience.

Prior to investment banking, Mr. Shippy worked at Andersen Consulting as a senior strategy consultant.  There, he advised several major public companies including BEA Systems (Oracle), Ford Motor Credit, Sun Microsystems, and Wellpoint on operations improvement and growth strategies. Jeff began his career as a CPA in Chicago with BDO Seidman, the second largest public accounting firm in the U.S. aside from the Big Four.  There, he focused exclusively on middle-market businesses and specialized in financial advisory services (business valuation and litigation support) for ownership succession, M&A, and financial reporting purposes.  His specialty was dealing with dynamic family- and entrepreneur-owned companies.

Mr. Shippy is a graduate of Thunderbird and holds an M.B.A. in International Management and Finance. While there, he was the catalyst in the founding and early development of Thunderbird’s Private Equity Institute. He earned his B.S. in Accountancy from Northern Illinois University, one of the nation’s top accountancy programs.  Mr. Shippy has substantial experience dealing with technical accounting, finance, and business valuation issues.  He earned his CPA on first attempt early in his career and also obtained his Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA) designation with a specialization in Business Valuation, as promulgated by the American Society of Appraisers.

Complementing his investment banking expertise, Jeff has unique competence in strategic development, data mining/information systems (obtained prior certifications), and operational modeling. As a result, he instinctively takes a hands-on role on deals, seamlessly blends with management of all kinds, and is known for rapidly understanding his clients’ businesses, issues, and needs.  He is regarded by his clients as a much appreciated asset, ensuring that executive management is creatively thinking about and addressing the right issues, preparing operationally, and positioning early on to earn an optimal valuation and the most favorable sale/financing terms in the market.  Mr. Shippy is a General Securities Representative licensed with FINRA (Series 7 and 63).
